Search for landslide victims in Bastem Luwu temporarily stopped due to heavy rain





Luwu -The SAR team temporarily stopped searching for landslide victims in North Bastem District, Luwu Regency , South Sulawesi (Sulsel) due to heavy rain. The search operation will continue tomorrow morning.

"We have temporarily stopped searching for victims because it was raining," said Head of BPBD Luwu Andi Baso to detikSulsel , Monday (26/2/2024).



Andi Baso revealed that the joint SAR team had found 14 victims who were hit by landslides. However, 4 of them died and 10 other people were injured.







"We just found 14 victims, 4 died and the others who were injured are being treated in hospital. We will continue to search," he said.







His party estimates that there are still victims buried by landslide material. However, his party has not confirmed the number of victims affected.



"We estimate that there are still victims (buried), we will still continue the search process. But for now it has been postponed because it is raining, then when we finish we will continue, the emergency response period is also 7 days," said Andi Baso.



As previously reported, a landslide hit a number of residents while passing Jalan Poros Luwu-Palopo, precisely in Bonglo Village, North Bastem District, Luwu, Monday (26/2) at around 09.00 WITA.





Andi Baso said the landslide disaster also resulted in the Luwu-Palopo Axis Road being paralyzed. Meanwhile, his party has deployed heavy equipment to clean the material.



"The Luwu-Palopo Axis road is temporarily impassable due to landslide material. We are also currently searching for other victims," ​​added Andi Baso.
