New surveillance video shows the moment a 25-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed during an unprovoked attack inside a Vancouver coffee shop in Canada.
The stabbing took place at approximately 6:20am Saturday inside the Tim Hortons at Harbour Centre, according to Vancouver police.
The footage shows the unidentified suspect approach the unsuspecting victim from behind and repeatedly stab the man in the back as he puts on his coat.
As the victim falls to the ground, the suspect runs out of the store, the video shows.
The victim, who officials said has only been in Canada since October on a tourist visa from Mexico, was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive, authorities said.
A motive behind the attack is unclear at this time but police stressed that it appears “random and unprovoked,” according to VPD Sgt. Steve Addison.
The victim and suspect did not know each other and did not appear to have any “significant interactions” prior to the attack, Addison said.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, around six feet two inches tall, with short black hair and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie with a black hood and sleeves as well as a black and white face mask with a Crooks and Castle logo.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Vancouver police at 607-717-2541.
