In a shocking incident that took place in Shahjahanpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, a Dalit woman was arrested last Thursday (October 8) after smashing her husband's head with a brick during an argument over lunch. The crime took place in broad daylight, in front of witnesses. The victim, identified as Satyapal, 40, worked as a security guard at a stadium. According to police, the couple had been married for over 18 years and used to fight frequently, often over trivial matters. On the day of the crime, Satyapal had asked his wife, Gayatri Devi, 37, to prepare a meal with meat. When he returned home in the afternoon and found that the meal was not ready, he questioned Gayatri, who explained that she did not have money to buy meat. Angered, Satyapal attacked her with a stick. In response to the attack, Gayatri Devi picked up a brick and hit her husband on the head, causing him to stagger and fall out of the house. She then continued to beat Satyapal on the head until he died, using the brick to crush his skull. When the police arrived at the scene, they found Gayatri sitting on her husband's body, scooping out his brains to make a stew in the middle of the street. The moment was recorded on video. A video of the incident, recorded by witnesses, quickly circulated on social media, causing outrage and horror. In the video, the woman can be seen in the midst of the brutal act, while the surrounding crowd watches without intervening. Gayatri Devi's family members claimed that she was suffering from mental problems, but they did not present any medical documentation to prove the condition. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar, Gayatri Devi has been arrested on charges of murder and will be produced in the local court of Shahjahanpur. The couple had children, who lived with their grandmother in a house far from the couple's residence. Preliminary investigation reports indicate that Satyapal and Gayatri Devi’s constant arguments, often fuelled by Satyapal’s alcohol abuse, contributed to Gayatri’s state of depression. The brutal crime has left the community in shock, and the video circulating online has only heightened the sense of horror among local residents.
