The bikes erradic driving caused this no doubt.
But why do some drivers make wide right turns? Aren't you supposed to get within inches of the curve before reaching the corner to avoid interrupting traffic flow? Unless you're hauling a trailer it makes no sense.

Got to correct you, mate. It's called hard shoulder lane. No one can drive there except in a case of emergency (emergency vehicles or stopping broken vehicles), you can see the solid straight line on it instead of stripped line.

I understand the "technicalities" of it, don't get me wrong.
Within recent years they've done the same thing here in California, purposely giving buses this extra space, and also to keep cars further away from the curve for "pedestrian safety" supposedly. The exchange though has been cars being unnecessarily far apart from the sidewalk when making a right turn, disrupting traffic flow, just because that stupid white line is painted on the road? It's a sabotage measure against drivers, to pay fines and secure the salaries for these useless idiots, we get no vote in this pecking order.

I don't respect it and keep my car out of everyone's way. I get inches away from the curve, pull up to the corner and make my turn. At least 2 cars fly by to my left, this proves that taking up a lane in high speed traffic is dangerous.

It's proven to be useful in The UK and Singapore, the difference is they usually get narrowed until they disappear near the turn. But the point is, never drive at high speed when you're on one.

The design of the shoulder lane in the video is shit.

Anyway,stupid driving habits. if I were the driver of the SUV, this accident would never have happened because I would finish turn QUICKLY, usually in less than 1 second, without affecting the vehicles going straight.
