Chino police fatally shot a man who they say wielded a knife at an officer who had responded to a domestic-violence call.
The confrontation happened around 10:15 p.m. last Thursday, June 20, outside a condominium in the 12800 block of 10th Street, Chino police said.
Officers responding to the call were directed to a 43-year-old Chino resident, Jose Angel Mendoza.
“Mendoza brandished the knife and refused to comply with the officer’s commands,” a police news release said. “Mendoza then advanced on the officer with the knife raised above his head, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
Neighborhood resident Renee Sundberg told KNN News, a freelance news organization that works sometimes with the Southern California News Group, that she heard one shot, then three more. She then saw officers treating Mendoza while he lay on the ground.
