Rainford Kalaba (37), Zambian soccer player, was involved in a head on collision on route T2, between Kafue and Lusaka, near Kafue Quarry.
He was a passenger in a silver Mercedes. The female driver was identified as Charlene Mkandawire.
While overtaking another vehicle the car collided head on with a Howo truck.
Charlene died on spot. Rainford was taken to a hospital in critical condition and reportedly is in a coma.
Truck driver identified as Muyunda Isaac (32) was not injured.
