JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - A family in North Jakarta committed suicide by jumping together from an apartment in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, on Saturday (9/3/2024) at around 16.15 WIB.
It is known that one family consists of a father with the initials EA (51), mother AEL (50), and two teenage children, namely a girl with the initials JL (15) and a boy JWA (13).
Penjaringan Metro Police Chief, Police Commissioner Agus Ady Wijaya, revealed that the four people died by suicide after jumping from the 22nd floor of the Teluk Intan apartment, Penjaringan.
Police Commissioner Agus said that the four people, who were one family, initially came to the apartment by car at around 16.02 WIB.
Arriving at the location, they got out of the car in a parking lot then took the elevator to the 21st floor as recorded on the apartment's CCTV.
At 16.05 WIB, based on CCTV footage, they were seen exiting the elevator on stair 21 and then climbing the emergency stairs to the apartment rooftop.
"Then at 16.13 WIB, the victims fell together in front of the apartment lobby," said the Penjaringan Metro Police Chief, quoted from a Kompas TV journalist report on Sunday (10/3/2024).
Police Commissioner Agus explained that before they jumped from the apartment building, in the elevator, the father, namely EA, kissed the forehead of his wife AEL and their two children JL and JWA.
After that, it was the mother's turn, AEL, who was seen collecting the cellphones of her husband and her two children.
"It was recorded on CCTV, in the elevator, EA kissed the foreheads of three other people. After being kissed on the foreheads, AEL was seen collecting cellphones from everyone to go upstairs," said Agus.
Furthermore, Agus said that the four people jumped together with their hands tied together.
In detail, the father tied his hands with his daughter, while the mother tied her hands with her son's hands.
After tying each other's hands, they then jumped from the rooftop and fell in the outdoor parking lot in front of the apartment lobby.
"At the time of the fall, EA and JL were still tied with the same rope, AEL was tied with the same rope as JWA, the rope was tied," said Agus.
"Then the identification results from Inafis showed that the injuries were head injuries, the head was broken at the back, fractures all over the body, both arms and legs were broken," he said.
Agus also confirmed that the four people died on the spot after ending their lives by committing suicide by jumping from the apartment.
After the incident, the police carried out a crime scene investigation and took the body to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for the post mortem et repertum process.
