Police officers responded to an Assist Medic call for service. When officers arrived on scene, they heard sounds of a disturbance inside an apartment, followed by gunshots. Officers forced entry into the apartment and were met by the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Peter Corey. Corey was combative and armed with a firearm. Officers observed the firearm in Corey's hand and gave repeated commands for him to drop the firearm. The weapon fell out of Corey's hand and officers moved to separate the subject from the weapon on the ground.

An altercation ensued during which Corey stabbed Officer Shawn McMichael in the head/neck area with a knife. Officer McMichael suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. During the encounter, Officer Tyler Bourque perceived a deadly threat and discharged his service weapon striking Corey. MEDIC responded to render emergency aid to Corey and Officer McMichael. Corey was pronounced deceased on scene. The female victim who suffered a gunshot wound prior to officers arriving on scene was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple firearms and knives were recovered from inside the apartment.
