Insecurity: a police officer killed a thief who tried to rob him with a toy gun

The shocking images were recorded by a security camera in the area.

A violent robbery attempt on the streets of José C. Paz has circulated on social networks and WhatsApp groups in the last few hours. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, at the intersection of Port-au-Prince and Cramer. A police officer, who works in the Tactical Unit of Immediate Operations (UTOI) of Malvinas Argentinas, was walking there, dressed in civilian clothes, when he was approached by two criminals who were circulating with caps to camouflage his faces.

It was these two young men, who were walking on the opposite sidewalk, who attacked the UTOI personnel with what was later proven to be a replica of a firearm. While they threatened him to give them the valuable objects he was carrying, the agent put his hand in his pocket and instead of grabbing his phone to hand it to the criminals, he took out his service weapon, a 9 millimeter caliber Bersa Thunder, and He shot almost at point-blank range.

The shots hit the young man who was wearing a black sweatshirt and cap, while his companion - who was wearing a gray sweatshirt and a white cap - managed to escape apparently unharmed. Both criminals ran away, but the one who was wounded by a gunshot fainted a few meters away and died instantly. Through the security cameras it is seen that the young man wearing the black coat was the one who had a prop weapon and the one who later died.

The thief was 24 years old and died from two gunshots to the chest area. To advance the case, we are awaiting the results of the autopsy carried out at the Lomas de Zamora judicial morgue. The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) No. 19 of Malvinas Argentinas intervenes in the case. Prosecutor Mirna Sánchez ordered that the necessary expert reports be carried out at the scene of the murder. Investigators seek to establish if the police officer acted under legitimate defense or if he exceeded his actions.
