Deputy director of the Zapopan Police is shot to death inside a cafeteria

On this Monday morning, the murder of Commissioner Carlos Manuel Flores Amezcua , who served as Deputy Operational Director of the Zapopan Police Station , in the state of Jalisco, was reported .

The events occurred inside a cafeteria located in the La Estancia neighborhood. Preliminary reports indicate a group of armed individuals got out of a couple of vehicles and broke into the establishment located on Patria Avenue.

Subsequently, they opened fire on Commissioner Carlos Manuel without saying a word. They immediately got back into their units and fled towards an unknown direction.

Immediately, the establishment's workers notified 911 , while the diners were bewildered by what happened. When medical personnel arrived at the premises, they found the commissioner dead, who no longer had vital signs.

The Zapopan Police described these events as a “cowardly attack.” Through social networks, he announced that the Police Station established contact with the Attorney General's Office of Jalisco to work in a coordinated manner in the investigation work and thus clarify the murder of Carlos Manuel, who had been in the corporation for more than two decades. .

“Commissioner Amezcua had 27 years of service in the police institution. The General Public Security Commissariat of Zapopan condemns the cowardly attack and reiterates its commitment to work unstoppably in the search for the perpetrators and to apply the full weight of the law,” he stated.

For his part, the municipal president of Zapopan, Juan José Frangie , regretted what happened and sent his condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the Commissioner. In a publication on the social network “X” (formerly Twitter), he reiterated that it was a “cowardly attack.”

“I met Carlos and I will always remember him with his characteristic leadership, working as a team, with willingness and commitment to a better city for the Zapopans,” said José Frangie.

He added that from the first moment, police elements from the Zapopan Police Station went to the area where the armed attack took place to find those responsible. “I will keep you informed about the progress,” he announced.

However, as of the publication of this note, there are no records of people arrested for these events. Due to this, the number of those involved in the murder and whether they were part of a criminal group is unknown.

Regarding the possible causes of the attack, the Jalisco authorities have not issued a report on the matter, so it has not been verified whether the Commissioner had previously received threats. Likewise, it has not been clarified whether Amezcua was alone or in the company of more people when he was murdered.

From January to November 9, 2023, the state of Jalisco had 22 police officers murdered , according to data from the organization Causa en Común. The entities with the highest number of cases in that period are Guanajuato (59), Guerrero (34 ), Zacatecas (25), Michoacán (25) and Veracruz (22).
