Inmate to serve more time after attack on jail officers in 2019
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14) — An inmate was sentenced Tuesday after the attack on jail officers inside the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in 2019.
Robert Dyment was sentenced to 8 and half years for his involvement in the attack.
Dyment was one of six inmates who attacked officer Benecome and Sergent Lamb on July 16, 2019.
The eight and half years will be added consecutively with any sentence he is currently serving.
He was charged with; one count of aggravated battery upon a peace officer (Great Bodily Harm) and one count of conspiracy to commit an aggravated battery upon a peace officer (Great Bodily Harm).
On July 16, 2019, an incident broke out at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility between six inmates and two detention officers.
The officers were ambushed as they were finishing up with the inmate’s medication call.
At least five inmates rushed the guards and pushed them into a corridor that was connected to the inmate pod, In the narrow hallway, the guards were punched, kicked and beaten.
The other inmates that were involved in the affray will be facing trial in 2022.
Inmates Irvin Ramirez, Martin Cuevas, Rico Sena and Gabriel Sedillo face 11 counts that include (2) counts of Kidnapping in the 1st Degree, (2) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping the 1st Degree, (1) Attempt to Commit a Felony, to wit: First Degree Murder (Willful or Deliberate), (2) counts of Aggravated Battery Upon a Peace Officer (Great Bodily Harm)(Deadly Weapon),(1) Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prisoner, and (3) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery Upon a Peace Officer (Deadly Weapon), (Great Bodily Harm).
Inmate Daniel Aragon face 4 counts that include; (2) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping in the 1st Degree, (2) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery Upon a Peace Officer (Great Bodily Harm).
