PJ police are investigating an incident of ‘disorder’ in Lisbon’s Bairro Alto area in the early hours of this morning that left a young man, thought to be aged just 20, dead. The incident was called in at 4.30am, and for now there are no further details. Comments over social media suggest a number of cars were vandalised during the ‘disorder’. Photographs also show what looks like a window shattered from a gunshot.

A 20-year-old man died this Saturday at around 4:30 in Bairro Alto, in Lisbon, as a result of disorder, reported the metropolitan command of the PSP in Lisbon.
The source added to the Lusa agency that he could not provide further details and that the case had been handed over to the Judiciary Police.
CNN Portugal knows that the young man was attacked with a bottle in the neck area, leaving him seriously injured. He was also transported to São José Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
The victim was part of a group of people who got involved in riots at the intersection of Calçada do Combro and Largo do Calhariz, in Bairro Alto, at 4:30 am this Saturday.
The 19-year-old young man who died on Saturday, in Bairro Alto, in Lisbon, after being hit in the neck with a broken bottle, was said to have acted trying to defend a friend, who was a member of a gang that at the time was trying to rob the group of foreigners who attacked him.
According to Correio da Manhã reports, Daniel Galhanas, the fatal victim, was present in one of the crimes carried out by the group that has been operating in that area of the capital, on weekend nights and, according to the Judiciary Police, which is investigating the gang, the elements choose foreign victims to carry out violent robberies.
The family explains to the same newspaper that it was Daniel's first time going to Bairro Alto and that he crossed paths with an acquaintance of his who was involved “in attacks against the English”. It was one of those members of the group that was being robbed who threw a glass bottle. Daniel stood in front of his friend to defend him and ended up being struck and dying at São José Hospital.
Family members assure that Daniel was not part of any gang and that he had no problems with the authorities.
The group of Englishmen fled after the episode and are wanted by the authorities. The PJ admits that they may have already fled our country.
