Bodies of three children who were drowned in the Gokyo glacial lake on Saturday have not been retrieved yet due to bad weather and geographical difficulties, said the District Police Office.
“Bodies of the children float from time to time. But we are struggling to fish them out for want of rescue materials,” said Inspector Nabin Rai.
Pemba Dorje Sherpa, Pemba Nuru Sherpa and Sunil Baraili were drowned in the lake on Saturday morning while swimming. All of them were ninth grader at Khumjung Secondary School. They had gone on an educational tour to the incident area.
A team from Khumjung police office along with the local people reached the incident site through a helicopter right after the incident. “But the team could not retrieve drowned ones due to bad weather. Today additional police team has been dispatched for the task,” said Rai.
The incident site is around two days walk from the police beat. A team of Nepal Army has also been sent to the incident site for rescue operation.
