OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — An officer from the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) is on routine administrative leave after shooting a man who police are accusing of attacking the officer with a knife.

The suspect, 43-year-old Christopher Brittain is recovering from gunshot wounds after having been shot by Sgt. Julian Barrie. OKCPD will book Brittain on assault complaints once he has recovered sufficiently to leave the hospital said OKCPD Sgt. Dillon Quirk in a press release.

Brittain is accused of attacking Sgt. Barrie with a knife after being stopped in a parking lot. The officer stopped Brittain once the officer identified Brittain as a suspect in a stabbing that had just occured nearby.

According to police, the series of events that led to the shooting started with OKCPD officers responding to a 911 call at 11:36 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, about a domestic stabbing in the 3300 block of S.E. 89th St.

Once there, police identified Brittain as the suspect in the stabbing who they were told had fled the scene in a vehicle.

Sgt. Barrie was sitting in a parking lot near S.W. 104th and S. Western Ave after finishing an unrelated service call just after midnight, now on Thursday, Sept. 22.

“Christopher Brittian entered where Sgt. Barrie was parked and began driving erratically through the parking lot. As Sgt. Barrie made a traffic stop on the vehicle, he quickly realized this was the suspect and vehicle from the stabbing,” the OKCPD narrative states.

The police narrative continues:

“Christopher Brittian eventually stopped and exited his car as the sole occupant. He quickly advanced toward Sgt. Barrie, wielding a knife, raised above his head. Christopher Brittian was given several commands to stop and drop the knife. He refused and was subsequently shot.”
