Moïse calls "declaration of war" killing of police officers in Haiti

Haitian President Jovenel Moïse lashed out at the armed group that killed at least four policemen during a confrontation between the two sides.
Through his Twitter account, Moïse said that this fact "constitutes a declaration of war" and that this leads to a response from state authorities.
"The killing of policemen constitutes a declaration of war on society. The disapproval by the population of these despicable acts requires a response from the state authorities who must use legal means to liberate the Village," tweeted the Haitian president.
At least four officers were killed and eight wounded during a clash between the Haitian National Police and a powerful armed gang during an operation that took place this Friday in Village De Dieu, at the southern entrance of Port-au-Prince, according to the official balance offered this Saturday.
Members of the gang known as "5 seconds", who have turned Village De Dieu into a lawless zone, seized various materials from the officers, including several weapons.
The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (Binuh) on Saturday expressed its dismay at the death of four members of the security forces in the Village-de-Dieu district, where eight agents were also wounded.
"The United Nations expresses its condolences to the families of the victims, to the Haitian National Police (HNP), as well as to the Haitian people, and wishes to join in their immense grief," the agency said in a press release.
